Moku at Oasis, Ara Damansara

Grilled and Barbequed sticks anyone? Yes, a new Japanese Grill and BBQ restaurant, MOKU, opened in Oasis, Ara Damansara. Oasis in Ara Damansara is yet another up and coming makan-makan place in Klang Valley. I am sure most people loves our local satay (seasoned chicken meat grill), but in Moku Japanese Grill & BBQ restaurant, there are more variety of japanese grill and tastes so much better.

Before I rave about the food, I would like to talk about Moku's decor.

First, I was initially shocked to see the collapsible grill gate as a door. Hmm... some cafes fix nice doors, some with soft curtains, but this is somewhat the sixty's (60's) design where this type of grill is popular then. Interesting.

The wooden table and chairs is another one of it's kind. They are painted with different shades of run-out colors.

Now, it is the table legs that caught my attention! See, it is made of metal rods or metal pipes? Must be a very strong table. Brillant, because, I feel that it can last longer and do not give problems to diners. For example, I have experienced in cafes where the table is so wobbly because of the table legs. I feel agitated as my drinks was spilled.

Or, maybe its Feng Shui? I check Feng Shui occasionally for fun. Sometimes it says, oh you must have more water or metal element around you because you are in this group which lacks this element. Feng Shui is interesting, but now back to Moku decor. Please forgive my this weeny bit of side tracking. By the way, after checking through the net, I found out that Moku is the Japanese for "wood". so, this explains the wood theme of decorations.

Bare bricks walls compliments the overall tables and grills well.

Going to the toilet? Well, you have to pull this heavy wooden door using the metal hinge hanging on the door. The whole door looks like a warehouse door to me. But then again, of course, it fits well with the collapsible gate, wooden top table with metal piping legs.

Don't worry, all is not lost for soft elegant lady diners, as there is a corner with flowers, books and magazines. Ladies who do not drink can browse away their time here.

This food tasting session started off with the new menu of fried mini chicken bird. It is bigger than pigeon, more meaty. I can taste the flavor of wine with one bite, thus it is well seasoned and delicious.

Fried Chicken and Fried Shrimps

There are lots of variety of grills to choose from, grilled scallops, salmon, chicken wings, chicken gizzards, chicken heart, pork belly sliced with scallops, pork belly sliced with tomato or enoki mushroom, cheese tsukume and many others. Price range per stick is from RM2.50 - Rm4.00. To me it is reasonably priced, as you are able to dine in cosy enviroment with air-conditioning as compared to some hawker "lok-lok" stalls charging almost the same price for some items.

There are vegetables grill such as brinjals, ladies finger, cherry tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, yaki tofu and others.

Tired of sticks? This scallops in shell is also tempting.

Surime Ika is the best and my most highly recommended dish. I am not a fan of squids, but this Japanese squid is cooked to perfection. The flesh is soft and tender, not chewy as most other squids would taste. I will take my hats off to the chef for this dish.

Longing for something more filling? Then try order a or two plates of spaghetti. Ala Carte dishes range from RM13.50 - RM18.50.

Grilled food is most suitable to go with beer. Here, in Moku, it is an all day promotion for beer.

But for people who prefer more healthy drinks, Moku sells wholesome detox cold pressed drinks. Four types of SJuicer Cafe drinks are sold all made from natural fresh ingredients of dragon fruit, watermelon, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon with no colouring, no preservative added. Price range from RM10 - RM13 a bottle of 250ml.

In conclusion, Moku is a Japanese grill & barbeque restaurant serving one of the freshest and cheapest yakitori in Oasis Ara Damansara. Just stop by Moku for some tasty yakitori as snacks, or go with beer or even go for the healthy detox drinks any time of the day.
