CADS And Coursera Collaborates To Launch International Courses


We are now into a digital world and there are up to 18.62 millions of social media users in Malaysia! (from Stastica.com) This is good as we are now moving into the fast, progressive stage where most information and learning can be attained just looking up in the internet (online). An old friend of mine is very happy and proud to demonstrate to all his senior friends how he can get immediate answers to questions by just speaking to his phone. (Ask Google ) Students of today, use online courses to help them in their studies and working adults can upgrade themselves with niche online course to improve their career. Personally, I have a number of friends who have completed their master's degree online. 


Data is core to every business operation in today's fast moving world and very important in the process of decision-making and innovation. Thus there will be a growing demand and need for Data Engineers, Data Analysts and Data Scientists. So, there is this latest online course which will start in February 2018 by The Center of Applied Data Science CADS in collaboration with Coursera

Coursera
Coursera is an online education company with a mission to transform lives through access to high-quality education. Founded by Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, Stanford university computer science professors, Coursera has to date 30 million registered learners from all over the world. Learners can take over 2,700 courses from 160 universities partners that include Yale, Duke, Stanford, John Hopkins and more. Coursera also offers 4 full Master's Degree programs that are entirely online. Being an educator with the intention of upgrading myself online, I have checked out Coursera website before. Now CADS is collaborating with Coursera, the largest 'massive open online course' (MOOC) platform in the world to offer a host of data science courses to Malaysians. Through this collaboration, working professionals, university students or interested people can pursue their dream career in the field of data science. There are 11 online courses offered of international standard. This is a unique online course as will have access to CADS Learning Hubs coupled with weekly personalized tutoring session with highly trained and experienced Data Scientists.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Cheam Tat Inn, says this partnership will enable us to nurture and empower a new generation of data scientists who will have access to world's best online education and exposed to reputable institutions such as John Hopkins University, Wharton University of Pennsylvania, University of Washington and University of California, San Diego.

A Memorandum of Understanding with the exchange of documents ceremony between Mr. Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director of CADS and Mr. Matthew Klein, Manager of International Government Partnerships at Coursera. Ms. Sharala Axryd, Chief Executive Officer at ADAX  and Dr. Karl Ng Hou, Director, Data Economy Division of MDEC was also present.


At present, there are a total of 11 courses being offered for online Data Science Learning courses. This course will start in February 2018, for students is RM3,599 and working adults RM4,999. This fee covers examination and quizzes, lab access and guidance of a data scientist an hour per week throughout the whole learning process.

Malaysian government's target to achieve the target of 20,000 data professionals by 2020.
