What I like about Baiyoke Sky Hotel? Location! Food! Shopping!

Travel and holidays are within reach now! Let's go Thailand, Bangkok for a short break ^-^ . From Malaysia, the cheapest flight available is Airasia. So I quickly booked a 4 days 3 nights holiday from Airasia with flight and hotel all inclusive. I chose Baiyoke Sky Hotel as it was the tallest hotel in Bangkok at 88-stories, with 7 dining outlets and a revolving rood deck. Baiyoke Sky Hotel is located in the downtown area of Pathumwan. It is a 5-minute walk to Ratchaprarop Airport Rail Link Train station, from which Suvarnabhumi Airport is a 25-minute train ride away.

I love the breakfast buffet at the Bangkok Sky and Bangkok Balcony on the 81st floor, where one can enjoy the panoramic views of Bangkok. It is a full buffet with lots of choices of seafood and many local and international cuisines. There are outside overhanging balcony seatings where you can just dine and enjoy the wind blowing into your face and a majestic view of the Bangkok skyline.

Balcony dining, it is so windy! My hair is blown all over and my eyes hardly can open!

Have a romantic evening dinner at Crystal Grill on the 82nd floor, with a grilled seafood buffet from 18.00-21.30 hours. Rest and relax with live entertainment, and music and sip your favourite drink at Roof Top Bar on the 83rd floor from 17.00 - 22.00 hours. For those who love Chinese cuisine, there is Stella Palace on the 79th floor serving Premium Chinese cuisines from 18.00-21.30 hours. Apart from 7 dining outlets, guests can visit the Fruit Buffet corner to sample an extensive range of fresh tropical fruits such as durian and mangosteen (provided it's in season). For those who just want coffee, there is this 24 hours Sky Coffee Shop on the 18th floor that also serves Thai and International dishes.

The observation deck is free of charge for in-house guests, and we are free to just walk about all around. From here, one can enjoy the spectacular view of Bangkok and beyond the metropolis, up to the Gulf of Thailand.  It takes about 10-15 minutes to walk around. Then there is also lots of fun things to do at 82nd floor, where we can take nice photos for our social media.

For fitness-conscious people, there is a Health and Fitness Club which provides spa treatments, a beauty saloon beside it, a gym, and also a swimming pool (reasonable size). Recreation facilities include a mini golf green and a tour desk available. I have my free welcome drink at the Baiyoke Mini Golf cafe where I enjoyed the nice view of the greens.

Rooms:
The rooms in Baiyoke Sky Hotel are spacious and have a luxurious view of Bangkok city's skyline. The attached marble bathroom has a bathtub, shower, a free set of toiletries set, slippers and  bathrobe. My room is equipped with a flat-screen rotating TV with international channels, mini-bar, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Free WIFI is available and the connection is strong.

The other feature I like about Baiyoke Sky Hotel is that there is a free shuttle to downtown Siam Center and Ratchaprarop rail station.

What do most ladies go to Bangkok for? Hmm.. shopping of course. Well, I am very happy to be staying in Baiyoke Sky Hotel as it is the best location for shopping for local summer wear. Thailand fashion has long been an uptrend in fashion and I have been buying Thai Fashion magazines since I was in my twenties which is about 40 years ago. So, here the wholesale market is just at the doorstep in front of this hotel. So many choices, such as Baiyoke Gallery, a morning market which starts at 5.30am and ends at 9am, then the night market starts in the evening till late at night. This is a wholesale market, prices are fixed for bulk buying and if you buy only one piece, then it is more expensive than the displayed price. No wonder I saw many people pulling luggage bags, and people pushing loads of textiles and bags of clothes in and out in between these narrow lanes of stalls. I have to practically squeeze my way around while shopping.

The streets are also dotted with some food stalls which I notice some locals bought

How do I get to this Baiyoke Sky hotel?
Two ways:
1) From Don Maung Airport: I landed at Don Mueang Airport, so I took the A2 bus from the airport to Mo Chit station, went on the BTS rail at Mo Chit, and get down at Siam Center then changed to the Airport rail to Phaya Thai station. From Phaya Thai, it is only one station away to Patchaprarop station. Form Ratchaprarop station, walk across the old rail track onto the pavements of shops, and turn right at road junction, you can see Indra Square on the left, and the tall Baiyoke Sky Hotel is further down. (for more details on my bus trip from Don Muang airport). I went to the city at Siam Center first as I arrived very early so went to Bangkok city first)
2) From Suvarnabhumi Airport: If you are coming from Suvarnabhumi Airport, then it is much easier. After you exit the custom gate, go to the airport rail link station, (located on the basement level). Get off at Ratchaprarop station, which is about 30 minutes and the fare is 45 Baht per person.
