Egyptian Meal at Tut's Eatery @ 1 Utama Shopping Mall, Petaling Jaya

"Let's eat Egyptian food! yeah, I am going to have a chance to eat Egyptian meal", I told my friend with excitement last week. "Are you going to Egypt?" she asked. Am I going to Egypt? I would love to but I have to wait for my pocket to fill up ^_^.  Meanwhile, we Malaysians are now very lucky as we have almost all types of international food and restaurants at our door step.

Tut's Egyptian Eatery is located in one of the prime shopping mall of Petaling Jaya, 1 Utama Shopping Mall. There are many types of authentic Egyptian dishes offered here such as Egyptian street food Moussaka, Koshari Grain Bowl and Creamy Konafa dessert.

Egyptian Classic Koshari Grain Bowl RM16.70, Junior RM11.50

Koshari is a dish made of rice, macaroni, lentils, chickpeas mixed together and topped with spiced tomato sauce, hot sauce, garlic vinegar, and garnished with crispy fried onions. Egyptian Koshari was originally made in the 19th century. It is equivalent to our Malaysian Nasi Lemak, or we may call it here as Egyptian Nasi Lemak.  How to eat? First pour the sauces onto the bowl, if you do not want too spicy or sourish, then just pour in half first. Then followed by the crispy garlic and give it a thorough stir. Refer to the video below on how to mix this Egyptian meal of Koshari Grain bowl. I find it very delicious and the combination of all these ingredients are all perfect! Worth giving it a try at Tut's Egyptian Eatery!

Molokhia Minced Leaf Stew + one side dish - RM11.55

To me this another dish I have never seen before. A special dish where the heat bowl is brought infront of you, a small piece of butter is put inside. Then this special Molokhia Minced Leaf stew is poured into it. Wow, I can hear the sizzling sound of when the stew is poured into the hot bowl. Another interesting Egyptian meal, for more details, check out the video below.

How's the taste? Actually, I was a bit skeptical initially. Well, surprisingly, this Molokhia Minced Leaf Stew at this Tut's Eatery tastes great, I do not smell or taste anything greenish like grass. Molokhia is made up of stewed Molokhia leaves spiced with butter, garlic, coriander, cumin and black pepper. In fact, my friend love it, especially when it is eaten with toasted crispy buttered bread. Another highly recommended dish.

Bamya Lamb Stew - RM38.50

Lots of Cute Lady Fingers inside this Bamya Lamb Stew.
I wasn't a fan of lamb, but this Bamya Lamb Stew had me blown over. The premium lamb cubes were cooked to the right temperature making it soft and tender. But I will say the star of this dish is the tiny lady fingers or okra. Why? Because these are tender, small and cute and they were all specially imported from Egypt! Finally, I get to taste a special vegetable that is directly from Egypt. You can taste it too, just order this Bamya Lamb stew and it also comes with a plate of Egyptian rice too.

Tut's Grilled Chicken Super Meal + Moussaka - RM28.50

For those who don't like some fancy Egyptian meal, this Tut's Grilled chicken is just right for you then. A plate of quarter grilled chicken with rice, two side dishes and a bowl of Moussaka will certainly wet your appetite and fill your stomach. All this is only RM28.50. Moussaka is an eggplant based dish cooked with minced meat and tomatoes. Here the minced meat is chicken, the whole dish is bit sourish and perfect when taken with chicken and rice.

Creamy Konafa - RM11.40
Add Sangkaya Ice cream - RM2.90

I love this type of straggly pieces of fine threads of crispy pastry baked to perfection and the creamy base. Creamy Konafa here is great as it comes with another side bowl of syrup so that we can adjust the sweetness on our own. To bring it to a higher level, we can top it with Sangkaya ice-cream.
